Overview
Rotate profits from Bitcoin into altcoins during the late stages of a bull market, when BTC dominance falls and altcoins outperform dramatically. Exit altcoins back to BTC or stablecoins before the bear market.
Setup
- 1.Establish a core BTC/ETH position as your base (60-70% of crypto portfolio)
- 2.Monitor Bitcoin Dominance (BTC.D) chart — falling dominance signals altcoin season
- 3.Identify high-quality altcoins with real use cases, strong teams, and growing ecosystems
- 4.Rotate 20-30% of BTC profits into 3-5 chosen altcoins with defined entry prices
- 5.Set hard stop-losses for each altcoin (e.g., -40% from entry)
- 6.Monitor BTC.D for rising dominance as a signal to exit alts back to BTC or stables
Max profit
Altcoins routinely 5-100x during altcoin seasons; rotation amplifies returns significantly

Altcoins can lose 90-99% in bear markets — rotation must be exited before trend reversal
Breakeven
Must recover BTC gains equivalent (altcoins must outperform BTC to justify the additional risk)
When to use
Late bull market when BTC has already risen significantly (2x+ from cycle low), BTC.D is falling below 50%, total market cap is at multi-year highs, and retail FOMO is building.
When to avoid
